Company Overview
Coloradans for Protecting Reproductive Freedom is a diverse coalition fighting to enshrine abortion rights in the Colorado constitution through a constitutional amendment. This citizen-led ballot initiative seeks to protect against government interference.
Our coalition is a national leader in abortion access and a model for building power on abortion rights. Despite our history of defeating abortion bans on the ballot and expanding access through legislation, significant inequities remain, which impact people of color and low-income communities the most. There are existing barriers to care in Colorado that depend on an individual's health insurance coverage.
Teachers, firefighters, other state and local public employees, and people enrolled in state health insurance plans don't have abortion coverage — simply because of where they work. Low-income workers under public insurance are also barred from having abortion care covered. This measure would reverse the ban on state health insurance coverage for abortion to protect the right to abortion for those on state health insurance. This ban passed by less than 1% in 1984. It is time to amend the constitution to remove this discriminatory distinction in who can access abortion care.
