Description

Position Title: Senior Policy Associate / Assistant Director of Policy

Reports to: Director of Policy  

Start Date: Immediately 

Location: Washington, DC (hybrid/remote)

Status: Full Time, Exempt

The Senior Policy Associate / Assistant Director of Policy (rank and salary are dependent upon experience) should be a talented and nimble writer with knowledge of and exposure to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and related issues, highly organized, proactive, a dedicated team player, and excited by the challenge of shaping the policy conversation about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Congress, among foreign policy specialists, and within the American Jewish community. 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Researching and drafting issue briefs, reports, fact sheets, briefing books, and other written products as assigned, to be disseminated through the J Street Policy Center. 
  • Working with the Director of Policy to implement all aspects of the policy team’s annual work plans, while also suggesting new ideas for J Street Policy Center publications and programming.
  • Planning, coordinating, and assisting with logistics for J Street Policy Center symposia, in collaboration with fellow members of the J Street policy team and other J Street staff.
  • Assisting the Director of Policy by serving as a subject-matter expert within the J Street team, including by answering questions from leaders and fellow staff in a timely and accurate manner and serving as a resource for the Government Affairs team regarding congressional vehicles.
  • Developing and advising on content for J Street’s national events, including conventions, leadership summits, J Stream webinars, Hill briefings, and Congressional staff trainings.
  • Attending and representing J Street in policy roundtables and forming/maintaining relationships within the Washington, DC policy community.

Compensation and Benefits

This is an exempt full-time position. The salary range is $60,000 - $65,000. Per J Street's Collective Bargaining Agreement, pay and title are commensurate with experience and according to pay bands outlined in our CBA.

J Street recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in J Street’s bargaining unit and is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

Required and Desired Skills and Characteristics

Must Have:

Applicants should have 3-5 years of experience and a track record demonstrating the following required characteristics and skills:

  • A strong commitment to and passion for J Street’s pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy mission;
  • Excellent written, research and verbal communication skills;
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently as well as in a team;
  • Eager to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment;
  • Creative thinking and eagerness to generate and contribute new ideas;
  • Interest in networking within the DC policy and diplomatic communities.

Nice to have:

  • Hebrew language proficiency;
  • Lived or spent significant time in Israel-Palestine;
  • Knowledge of the DC foreign policy community (including think-tanks and centers).
