About Protect Our Care

Protect Our Care (POC) has led the successful campaign to protect the Affordable Care Act,

fight the Trump Administration’s relentless war on health care -- including its failed pandemic

response -- and inform Americans about how they can help create a better health care system

by engagement in the political process. POC operates a communications and rapid response

war room and organizing outreach hub in Washington, DC and organizing and communications

teams in multiple states.

Position: Development Director

Location: Washington, DC

Status: Exempt, Full-Time

Reports to: Executive Director

Working directly with the top leadership of POC, the Development Director will be responsible for managing the organization's entire fundraising program. The Development Director will lead the management, and coordination for fundraising outreach, strategy development, and donor contact. In addition, the Director will provide support to the Executive Director and Chair. 

The Development Director’s responsibilities include: 

  • Create and implement short and long-term strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward foundations, major donor prospects, and donors
  • Write proposals and respond to donor inquiries
  • Oversee and manage the organization's nascent database and tracking systems to ensure appropriate donor stewardship
  • Leverage opportunities which may advance POC’s agenda as they arise; and move quickly to capitalize on real-time events
  • Motivate, mentor, and direct a professional and dedicated staff
  • Build prospect pipeline and expand list of potential funders among foundations and high net worth individuals
  • Conduct and/or supervise donor research and prospect identification
  • Provide direct support to organizational leadership


Organization is based in Washington, DC but this position is indefinitely remote. Salary range is between $140k-$175k, depending on experience

The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, ambitious, energetic, creative and should have the following experience and qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree required, and at least 4 years of proven experience in a fundraising program
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong skills in management and leadership; must understand the subtleties of motivating and directing a diverse group of personalities with different work styles 
  • Committed to and enthusiastic about the mission and programs of POC with a broad appreciation for and a sophisticated understanding of the intersection of health care and politics
